5 minutes with Joburg Comedian, Claudine Ullman.

She’s a minute-a-laugh person, who doesn’t take to seriously! SA Life Magazine sat down with Joburg Comedian, Claudine Ullman and got to know the funny girl a bit more... have a look.

Describe yourself in 5 words? I am really realllllly funny.

What was your childhood like? Average to Awesome. Filled with way too much "Reggies Rush" and not enough tree climbing.

When did you first discover a love for the entertainment industry?

Most babies first word is "Dada" mine were "Live from New York...It's Saturday Night."

Who are you when you’re simply at home, on a Sunday afternoon?

Ultimate Couch Potato Lady

Who do you admire within the South African entertainment industry, and why?

Ashley Hayden, she made continuity presenting with a large gap between your teeth, cool.

How do you deal with negative criticism?

Cry about it first and then use it to make me stronger. Mwahahaha

Who is your role model and why?

When I grow up I want to be Oprah. 'Nuff said.

Where’s the most interesting place you have travelled to and why?

New York, it's smelly, dirty, overcrowded but somehow is still best city in the world.

What motto or words do you live by?

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. Perception is key.

Everybody starts their working careers off small, what was your very first job?

High School Maths Tutor.

The entertainment/comedy industry is a tough industry to break into. What encouraging words do you have for anyone starting out?

Just do it. You can't hit that home run by sitting on the bench. (Fill in other profound sporting analogy here).

In your line of work, you get to meet a wide variety of people. Who was your most memorable?

Probably Amy Poehler. Went to go watch her perform at UCB in New York in 2007 then waited in the snow for her to come out and just said "Well done, you were great!" and walked away. So didn't even technically get to meet her. Arrrggghh I still cringe a little.

I am sure you have encountered a few fans along the way, what has been your favourite fan encounter?

A fan came up to me and said: "Wow you were amazing, can I buy you a drink?" So he bought me a beer. He came up to me later on the dancefloor and said: "Wow not only a hilarious comedian but you move really well for a pregnant woman too?" Disclaimer: I am not, nor have I ever been pregnant.

Did you always see yourself in the entertainment industry, or did you have different dreams as a child?

Making people laugh or designing comedians outfits for stage. Nothing has changed.

What has been your most challenging decision in your career thus far? What made it so challenging?

Do I move overseas or stay in Joburg. It's that whole thing of...would you rather be a big fish in a small pond or small fish in a large pond?

Everyone harbours a pet peeve. What is yours?

People who speak on loudspeaker in public....argh...they drive me crazzzzy.

Final Question. If you could choose any superhero to play on a big budget Hollywood production, who would you play?

Ultimate Couch Potato Lady...like I said. I wouldn't have to do much.
