Mariette & Carla Monteiro are the owners of Skin PhD Queenswood, a brand new tranquil and peaceful setting where you will receive bespoke treatments to enhance your outer and inner beauty.

Situated in Queenswood, Pretoria, their salon offers a wide variety of beauty treatments from massages and waxes to advanced facials and aesthetic beauty treatments.

Apart from their wide variety of beauty treatments, they also offer a variety of nail services. From pedicures to manicures and nail enhancements… You name it!

Describe your working relationship and roles?

We both share responsibilities equally at the salon but Carla has more of a way when it comes to interacting with clients, while Mariette handles the business side of things.

As a sister team, how do you balance work and play?

Currently we are still finding it very difficult, to balance both roles at this point in time. We are currently working very hard, so as to allow us to reap the benefits late, but spending time with our kids and husbands is our down time.

As entrepreneurs - what drew you towards opening a beauty aesthetics salon?

We saw that there was a niche market and big need to open a beauty store in the Queenswood community. One that could provide excellent service and products to it's residents. We now can offer the com provide what we love doing while fulfilling the desire to own and operate our business

You both come from completely different career backgrounds - what brought on this change?

We both needed a break from the corporate monotonous world and the opportunity presented itself at an opportune time, so we took the leap.

How do you deal with negative criticism/customers?

Criticism is always good. It gives us a new perspective to something we might have missed or never considered.

What motto or words do you live by in the work-space?

Client Service! Client Service! Client Service!!

You get to meet a wide variety of people within the work-space. Who was your most memorable and why?

We’ve met some pretty awesome clients but the one that stood out the most, was a client that bought all our staff flowers and chocolates, just to say thank-you.

What has been your most challenging decision in your careers thus far?

Moving from a corporate environment to an entrepreneur one – this was us, moving to the unknown!

Final Question. If you could work alongside any celebrity, international or local, who would it be and why? 

Kris Jenner. She’s a businesswoman who’s turned her family name into a billion-dollar empire.
