A feast from the fire: Tempelhoff’s ‘Sunday Summer SMOKEOUT’ at beyond.


a limited edition dining experience

Few things are as inextricably linked to South African culture and tradition as

gathering and cooking around a fire. Expect a scent of charcoal and the glimmer of

hot coals in the Cape vineyards as Peter Tempelhoff introduces a unique dining

concept at beyond this season: the ‘Sunday Summer SMOKEOUT’, set to be

become a weekend destination for all foodies.


Set in beyond’s 30 seater al fresco restaurant courtyard at Buitenverwachting wine

farm, family-style feasts from the fire will take centre stage at the Sunday Summer

SMOKEOUT. Guests are invited to join beyond’s chefs as they cook over the fire,

firing plates of free-range meats, the freshest seafood and organic vegetables. Think

free range limousine beef, acorn-fed Iberico pork, Japanese style pastured chicken

yakitori, Mozambique style prawns.


These offerings will be accompanied by an array of delicious salads. Imagine crisp

lavish bread with caramelised onion, goats cheese, thyme and tomatoes or a bowl of

wedge salad, buttermilk ranch, blue cheese, bacon and croutons tossed at your table

side. Wood fired vegetables such as sweet corn cobbettes with ras el hanout spice &

pecorino cheese will be included in this limited edition experience. As with beyond’s

menu, the focus will remain on seasonal produce and a deep respect for

provenance.


On arrival, guests will receive a welcome glass of Buitenverwachting MCC Extra Brut

Sauvage. Disgorged à la minute – this rare vintage, reserved for fireside sipping, is

our gift to you.


The beyond Sunday Summer SMOKEOUT will be running every Sunday from 12pm

to 4pm, for the duration of summer, weather dependent. 



Menu - R420pp, under 12’s - R150 pp.

As there are limited seats around the courtyard fountain, pre-paid bookings are

essential. The Sunday Summer SMOKEOUT menu will be served alongside the

beyond à la carte menu in the restaurant.
