CHANGING LIVES, MEET SASHA-LEE TAYLOR.

Updated: Jan 22, 2019

She's a 22 year old business woman, philanthropist and author, who is vibrant, driven, hard working and boasts a passion for life and making a difference in those surrounding her, especially with regards to helping children become educated.

Who is Sasha-Lee Taylor?

I value my friends and family tremendously, I love outdoor adventures and can be quite the adrenaline junkie too.

Your're a multi-dimensional lady. A model, author and philanthropist. As the director of a modelling Academy - what makes the modelling industry one that you enjoy?

I joined the modeling industry when I was 10 years old, purely to help me gain more self confidence (I was an incredibly shy child). From that moment, I fell in love with the industry. What’s so special, is that it’s not just about winning titles- there’s so much more to it, the amount of overall personal growth that I see in my students when they join the industry is what makes me very passionate about the industry. There’s also the side of using the modeling industry to give back and make a difference in the community that is very special.

As the author of a children's educational book, when did you first discover your passion for writing?

From a young age, I always enjoyed being able to tell stories through paper and pen, and my biggest passions are education and making a difference, so I thought why not use a book to make that difference. In a way, I was able to combine all of my passions.

Do you believe authors have specialised skills important to their career?

I believe everyone has specialized skills that they should develop to the best of their ability. It’s up to that individual to use those skills.

Is there any training and/or studying that goes into becoming an author?

Yes, there is but not necessarily every author studied to become a writer. For me I didn’t study to become an author, writing these books was just a passion of mine that I explored with the aim to help children. However, I must mention this book was not only my doing, my sister did the illustrations and my mom oversaw the illustrations, without them it wouldn’t have been possible.

What does a typical day look like for Sasha-Lee?

At the moment I start my day with 8am classes until 3pm at university and then I hit a gym session, before I work and give classes at my modeling academy in the evenings, thereafter I get home to work on the second book and prepare for my classes the next day.

What are some of the challenges that are faced within the modelling industry?

Every industry faces their own challenges, but I think in the modeling industry it’s very important to believe in yourself and sometimes that’s a big challenge models face. Just because of a bad outcome at a casting or modeling competition it does not by any means mean that you are not good enough. Models in the industry need to understand that it’s okay to not always win, just always believe in yourself and you will reach the top.

What important lesson have you learnt from being in the modelling industry?

The industry has taught me a lot about myself, it’s taught me that I can achieve anything I put my mind to and that’s something I try to always teach my students at my academy. A motto we have at the studio is “if you can dream it, you can be it” Something else the industry has taught me is that you should never be afraid to dream big!

On top of writing a book and managing a modelling academy, you are also studying - how do you manage such an intense schedule?

Some days are definitely a challenge but I have always enjoyed being busy. Time management is something I learned at a young age and that’s extremely important when you have a busy schedule. I also have an amazing support system of friends and family that help me a lot, I don’t know what I’d do without them!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to get involved in a charity or foundation?

You don’t have to start big, start small, start local and encourage others to do the same, and that way, you can create a chain reaction where everyone can start making a difference, if we work together we can achieve amazing things.

What is your motto in life?

Anything is possible, for the word itself says, “I’m-Possible”
