MasterChef Australias Ben Ungermann coming to Capsicum to share his ice-cream making skills in a ser

Ben Ungermann became known as the ice-cream king in the hugely popular MasterChef Australia.Since then life has been nothing but sweet for the contestant who has now started his own ice-cream empire. The MasterChef Australia 2017 runner-up is heading to South Africa this month to share his secrets on how to make the perfect, silkiest and most natural ice cream that he is famous for, as part of a world tour. Ungermann will be working exclusively with the Capsicum Culinary Studio on these ice cream masterclasses where participants will learn the techniques and tricks to perfect at home and impress even the toughest of food critics and fussy friends.

The masterclasses will take place at the Capsicum Culinary Studio in Pretoria on Monday, August 13, Tuesday, August 14 and Wednesday, August 15. There will be demonstrations on each of these three days from 14h00 to 16h00 and from 18h00 to 20h00. The cost is R850 a person and includes an apron and a welcome drink.

In 2017 Ungermann decided to pursue his dream of a life in food on MasterChef Australia with a strong push from family and friends. He learned so much during the season, finished as runner-up and discovered a love and talent for desserts and his now famous ice cream. Dubbed the "Ice Cream King" by his fans, the cry was for an ice cream parlour and Ben and his brother Danny opened up Ungermann Brothers retro ice cream parlour earlier this year which is run and operated by the Ungermann family. He describes his food style as rustic, with a hint of sophistication with very diverse and unique flavour combinations. So far, he has been able to work with some of the best chefs internationally from Yotam Ottolenghi and Clare Smyth to Heston Blumenthal. Since MasterChef Australia Ungermann has been travelling the globe from Japan to England and his homeland in the Netherlands with his culinary adventures and has brought Ungermann Brothers ice cream to a global market.

Says Mark Coombe, principal of the Capsicum Pretoria campus: “We are delighted that Ben will be giving masterclasses at our school and anyone who wants to learn the art of ice cream making should not miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to do so, and at the hands of the master!"

Capsicum Culinary Studio is situated at Menlyn Square, Ground Floor, South Building 134 Aramist Ave, Waterkloof Glen.
