Intern Day, celebrated today, 25th July, is an opportunity to recognise interns working hard to acquire new skills and progress towards their dream careers. Jessica Tandy, Bizmod Director and trustee of the Bizmod Women’s Trust, says, “Companies of all sizes offering internship programmes have a responsibility to provide these individuals with the very best learning opportunities.”
Internships play an integral role in teaching skills, fostering self-growth, and integrating interns into the company culture and team collaborations. Tandy says that Bizmod is committed to making a meaningful impact by empowering South African youth and women in the IT Sector. Women are still significantly underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) positions in the workplace and at universities. Furthermore, STEM skills are scarce in South Africa.
Bizmod focuses on identifying, developing, and supporting top ICT talent, growing these individuals technical and behavioural soft skills. “There is a real need in South Africa to uplift our youth, in particular our girl children,” concludes Tandy.
