Nando’s Brings Bags of Flavour to the Heart of Braam.

To celebrate the launch of two new PERi-PERi Bag & Bake flavours, Nando’s has created a #PERiTricks pop-up in Braamfontein.

Nando’s has added two new flavours to their Bag & Bake range. Putting the power of PERi-PERi cooking into everyone’s hands, these flavours – Paprika Citrino and Smokey Churrasco – allow customers to spice up their home-cooked meals with the brand’s signature Afro-Portuguese fusion flavour profiles. Paprika Citrino is a sweet, smokey paprika flavour infused with a cheeky, zesty lime twist and mild PERi-PERi. While the Smokey Churrasco is a savoury, oak-smoked umami flavour, perfectly balanced by subtle sweetness and a gentle kick of medium PERi-PERi. Both flavours, of course, include the Nando’s signature ingredient – PERi-PERi (African Bird’s Eye Chilli).

The new flavours have inspired a selection of #PERiTricks recipes that puts a fresh spin on some of South Africa’s favourite foods and ingredients. And as part of the launch, customers will get to discover these recipe tricks between 24 June and 10 July 2022 at the pop-up in Braamfontein. Think super fun recipes made in a tumble dryer, air fryer, or even with an iron.

With Nando’s brand being synonymous with local creativity, their approach to this roll-out is no different. They have partnered with South African talent across creative disciplines – including design, culinary arts, cinematography, and more.

As the creative agency for the product launch, the culinary-minded design team at Studio H, which is known for creating immersive brand spaces and experiences all over the world, was responsible for creating and managing the concept, developing the recipes, and directing and producing the recipe video content for the project. The studio collaborated with some of the finest local talent to make this project come to life.

Food creative and stylist Keletso Motau, who’s no stranger to Nando’s – having worked on Nando’s recipe videos in 2021 – and some of the country’s biggest food brands, has brought his eye for detail and knack for sensorial imagery on board.

Award-winning textile and surface designer Bonolo Chepape came up with the original pattern designs for the space, inspired by Mozambican architecture and weaving techniques. Chepape not only received the Best Textile Design award at 100% Design South Africa 2018, but she was also a finalist in the Nando’s Hot Young Designer Pattern Hunt in the same year as well as a recipient of the 2019 Design Foundation Future Found Award.

“Our collaboration with young stars like Bonolo and Keletso is part of our ongoing drive to nurture creative talent in South Africa. As an authentically home-grown brand, we welcome all South Africans to a seat at our table. At our pop-up, they’ll be able to engage with our brand in an interactive and fun way and gain greater insight into the creativity and innovation that drives our brand,” says Vanessa Nunes, the Marketing Manager for Groceries at Nando’s.

Durban and Cape Town-based architecture and design studio Stretch Architects brought the pop-up to life through a playful process of combining intuitive ideation with an understanding of function to create a lively and futuristic space.

And to link the #PERiTricks recipes to the engaging digital and social media content that the Nando’s brand is loved for, Studio H enlisted the innovative prowess of videographer Earl Abrahams alongside videographers and editors from Yellow Brick Media.

While customers are welcome to just pop into the pop-up, it is advised that they book and guarantee their spots at nandos.co.za/popup.

Nando’s new PERi-PERi Bag & Bake variants can be found at major grocery stores nationally at the recommended retail price of R22,99 each. The Bag & Bake range, which also includes Lemon & Herb, Medium, Hot, and Garlic, gives an effortless and unique Nando’s PERi-PERi flavour to any homecooked meal in just 30 minutes.
