Oryx Desert Salt has a vision: to be the world’s leading supplier of ethical, locally produced,
pure, unprocessed, health-giving Desert salt from the Kalahari; and to harvest and package
the salt in an ecologically-aligned way.
‘We’re always looking for ways to reduce the ecological impact of our packaging,’ says
Samantha Skyring, CEO. ‘Which is why we’re super-excited to launch our brand new
biodegradable packaging for three of our product ranges, all printed with certified toxic-free
ink.’
Their mini Travel Salt and Pepper shakers are popular and occupy an important niche in
their range; nevertheless, it troubled the Oryx Desert Salt team that these were made of
plastic. The 10g salt shaker and 5g pepper shaker are now available in attractive mini paper-
tubes. ‘Not only are they eco-friendly,’ smiles Sam, ‘they’re also incredibly cute and
practical!’
The Oryx Braai Salt with its glass bottle and plastic shaker top, has also had a packaging
and name revamp and is now available in a sleek, red 200g paper-tube with a revolving
shaker top and renamed BBQ for our international customers.
Similarly, the Oryx FINE Salt shaker finds its place on the shelf in a stylish 350g white
paper-tube, with a cardboard shaker top.
The new biodegradable paper-tube packaging is in line with Oryx Desert Salt’s
#RefillNotLandfill philosophy; they sell smart refill boxes alongside their reusable glass
grinders with long-lasting ceramic grinder heads. Oryx has also decided not to use
lamination, to support their minimalist ‘paper, not plastic’ approach for their shaker product
range.
Oryx Desert Salt is a well-established South African brand, known for producing natural,
pollution-free salt sourced from the pristine Kalahari Desert. Deep within the desert, lies a
remote saltpan where crystal salt is harvested from underground streams running through
ancient Dwyka rock formations tested to be 280-300 million years old, and then sun-dried
under the hot Kalahari sun. The result is a 100% pure, naturally organic, nutritious salt.
Oryx Desert Salt is sustainable, coming from an ever-renewable and self-replenishing
source in the Kalahari. Refillable, stylish, glass bottles with long-lasting ceramic grinder
heads (so no plastic particles are ground into food!) encourage customers to refill their
grinders over and over by buying value-for-money refill boxes.
Spot the iconic Oryx horns on restaurant tables and in retail stores nationwide in South
African and planned to launch in the UK in 2024.
Oryx Desert Salt retail products are available in Whole Foods Market stores in the USA,
Namibia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Germany, UK, Taiwan, Nigeria and
Australia.
