Kierieklapper River House.... Self catering luxury in the African Bushveld.

Nestled next to the banks of the Kruger National park, Lies a gorgeous spot, surrounded by the sounds and smells of Africa, with Sunsets pouring over a luxury Boutique house, let me introduce you to KierieKlapper River House.

If you’re a bush lover and African Wildlife is your thing this is a place to visit.

It is a self-catering retreat, for families looking for the luxury of a unique bush experience.  Overlooking the Crocodile river and banks of the Kruger National park, this little bush spot has everything you need and more.

A mere 15-minute drive to the Crocodile River Gate of the Kruger National Park, it’s perfectly situated to experience what the bush has t offer. Getting up early seems effortless when you are woken up to the sounds of the African Fish Eagle cries as the search for their morning breakfast, or the elephants trumpeting as they have a refreshing swim in the crocodile river just across the road. Marloth park, where the house is situated is an incredible area surrounded by plains game and housing some of the best holiday homes, self-catering homes, bush lodges and hotels.

Four gorgeous bedrooms (yes, all air-conditioned), with on suite-bathrooms make this the ideal family location. A group of friends, being able to share time away from the hustle and bustle of city life,  allowing them to recharge their batteries, but still having their own space…. Perfection.

The main bedroom has a king size bed as well as a single bed, bedroom two, a queen size bed and a single bed, bedroom 3 a queen size bed and bedroom 4 a double bed. All beds have crisp white linen and the comfort of these beds scream luxury.

The house is serviced daily, so by the time you come back from that early morning game drive you walk back into pristine comfort and luxury.

Each bedroom has a coffee station, so if you’re like us and you’re an early riser and don’t want to wake anyone else up, grab a coffee and sit either on the balcony or outside on your deck area and see what animals you can spot. Any South African will tell you, there is no experience that quite matches the sun rising over the bushveld.

In each bathroom, you have been given a set of Kalahari Ancient desert secrets products to maximize on those luxury moments. From bath and shower gel, conditioning shampoo to keep those locks soft and tangle-free, to body and hand lotion and best of all and my personal favourite, the SPF15 insect repellent. Perfect for keeping those pesky mosquitos at by during those late nights out by the fire place, or early morning game drives.

Quality time with your family or friends can be spent at the pool and braai area, which is decked out and overlooks the crocodile river. The house is an open plan, and on those hot days, opening up all the glass doors gives you a cool African breeze throughout the house.

Deck chairs  & pool towels are provided for you to enjoy afternoons, whether that’s having a rest, catching a tan in the beautiful African Sun  or splashing around in the pool to cool off. The lounge is open and light creating an airy space with couches to catch up on any TV programmes or sport of your choice. (Although we all know the only TV you really need is BUSH TV- nothing quite like sitting and staring into the bushveld and listening to all the sounds nature has to offer)

Let’s chat evening time. Spending time together as a family, or a group of friends, is amplified by cooking together, or prepping for the evening braai. There are 2 Braai areas. One in-door braai, in case it’s a rainy day and one outside situated by the fireplace. I mean, we all know that unless it’s mother nature pouring down in her finest fashion, you would much rather be sharing a cooking experience under the dark blanket of stars, surrounded by the sounds of the African Bushveld.

You are welcomed to the house by a gentleman, by the name of Philip. He is an absolute gem, who hands you a drink as you walk in to the perfectly serviced and set up house. And trust me there is nothing better than the welcome of a cold beverage after travelling from Johannesburg in the stifling heat.

He will walk you through the house and show you each of the rooms, the doors, locks, the air-cons and how to work them, shows you where to find anything and everything in the kitchen and is more than happy to answer any and all questions you may have. This man is the friendliest and most polite house front-man I have ever met.

The house comes with, a bag of wood, a bag of charcoal and daily servicing.

There are 2 double fridges, A fully kitted kitchen, washing & drying facilities in the house, a dishwasher, air cons in all rooms of the house. (Yes, each bedroom, the lounge, the kitchen, and the dining area). There is space for 2 covered parking spots and another 3 vehicles in open-air parking spots. The venue can sleep 10 people.

The house costs R3 000.00 per night and when you think about it, 10 people, that’s really not a huge amount to spend time, surrounded by Africa’s finest, recharging and reconnecting with those you love.

We left KierieKlapper river house, relaxed, recharged and ready to take on the mundane routines of city-life, but also the house and surrounding bushveld, left us wanting more. Trust me when I say, we will be back sooner that you think!
